Our "Proposal 4: Safety Clarification" has passed now. It will delete
section 14B.1 and move the safety-related text into the safety section.

I noticed now that there was also some text in 14B.1 which is not
related to safety:

"These rules cannot cover every situation. Teams have to agree on a
specific amount of elbowroom before playing. The different
backgrounds of the players and the conditions of the location have
to be considered. Fairness of everyone involved is vital."

I think we should not delete this text. I suggest to leave it at the
beginning of the Competitor Rules 14B where it will be a nice preface.

Comment

Perhaps "These rules cannot cover every situation. Teams have to agree on a specific amount of elbowroom before playing. The different backgrounds of the players and the conditions of the location have to be considered. Fairness of everyone involved is vital."

Should go under 14A Overview?

Comment

Good idea to move the preface to the overview section 14A. The current
text there is flawed anyway. Here is a suggestion for a new complete
overview, including the already existing preface:

"Unicycle hockey is a variant of hockey which is played on unicycles,
using ice hockey sticks and a tennis ball. These rules cannot cover
every situation. Teams have to agree on a specific amount of elbowroom
before playing. The different backgrounds of the players and the
conditions of the location have to be considered. Fairness of everyone
involved is vital."

Comment

Not bad.

In theory unicycle hockey can also be played using floorball sticks though

Comment

Ya looks good. Just take out the "ice".

Comment

Yes, a simple and good solution. Here is the revised text without the
"ice":

"Unicycle hockey is a variant of hockey which is played on unicycles,
using hockey sticks and a tennis ball. These rules cannot cover every
situation. Teams have to agree on a specific amount of elbowroom before
playing. The different backgrounds of the players and the conditions of
the location have to be considered. Fairness of everyone involved is
vital."

Comment

I would keep the "ice" in combination with hockey sticks. For Americans is "hockey" = hockey on ice. Not so in Europe.

If you use in Europe only the word "hockey" this would be field hockey or cricket-hockey. These hockey players are using a total different hockey stick.

If we write "ice hockey sticks" it will be clear around the world which kind of stick we are using.

Comment

I believe any type of hockey sticks are ok as the danish use some short lightweight ones I think that are used for floor hockey? Are field and cricket hockey sticks allowed?

Comment

I like the section about the elbowroom in the overview.

I think we can only be accurate if we write more:

Unicycle hockey is a variant of hockey which is played on unicycles,
using ice hockey or floor ball sticks and a tennis ball. [...]

Comment

yes it must say ice hockey or floor ball.

Herbert is correct that field hockey is a hockey stick but entirely different.

Comment

This section is just a very short introduction. I think that mentioning
the floor ball stick here emphasizes this type of stick too much. It is
only used by the Danish team. I have a new idea. We can write the
preface without mentioning the type of stick at all:

"Unicycle hockey is a variant of hockey which is played on unicycles
with a tennis ball. These rules cannot cover every situation. Teams have
to agree on a specific amount of elbowroom before playing. The different
backgrounds of the players and the conditions of the location have to be
considered. Fairness of everyone involved is vital."

Comment

Fine.

14A.1 "Definition" requires rewording as well or should be merged in.

The Stick definition we have here: 14B.5 Sticks

Comment

Looks good Rolf.

Comment

Removing the type of stick is a good solution.

Comment

If there are no objections, I will create the following proposal soon:

PROPOSAL START

Replace the current text of the Definition section 14A.1 with:

Unicycle hockey is a variant of hockey which is played on unicycles with
a tennis ball. These rules cannot cover every situation. Teams have to
agree on a specific amount of elbowroom before playing. The different
backgrounds of the players and the conditions of the location have to be
considered. Fairness of everyone involved is vital.

PROPOSAL END

Herbert: I would prefer to call the section 14A.1 "Preface" but I think
the new IUF rulebook structure requires that each chapter starts with a
section called "Definition".

Comment

Support this

Comment

I assume you are right with "...the new IUF rulebook structure requires that each chapter starts with a section called "Definition"." Maybe a paragraph with a subparagraph can solve the problem. E.g.

14A.1 Definition

Unicycle hockey covers a variant of hockey which is played on unicycles with a tennis ball. Usually it is played in a gym hall.

After that make a subparagraph and you will stick to the new IUF rulebook structure

14A.1.1 Preface

These rules cannot cover every situation. Teams have to agree on a specific amount of elbowroom before playing. The different backgrounds of the players and the conditions of the location have to be considered. Fairness of everyone involved is vital.

Comment

I checked the rulebook structure requirements which I found in section
1A.2:

"Each chapter includes a overview, competitor rules, officials rules,
and organizer rules."

This probably means that our section 14A must be called "Overview" but
it doesn't say that we have to call section 14A.1 "Definition".

I suggest we simply rename section 14A.1 from "Definition" to "Preface"
and hope that no-one complains...

Comment

Do it. It is unlikely to be an issue

Comment

Please add "Usually it is played in a gym hall." All other disciplines describe the location where we ride. > Go!

Comment

OK, I have added the gym and created the proposal.
